#Mental fitness, a foundation for wellbeing.
The importance of the triad of holistic health and wellbeing - physical, mental, and spiritual- for overall wellness (whether one adheres to practices for these or not) is pretty clear in this day and age. We generally know that in order to remain or become holistically well we must practice fitness and wellness habits in all three domains on a regular basis. That's why I am proud to offer a mental fitness framework, the #positiveintelligence program, with my one to one and group coaching and development services. I became a Positive Intelligence® (PQ®) Coach in the early fall of 2022, and the journey into mental fitness – supporting others’ experiences and strengthening my own – has been nothing short of remarkable. Regular mental fitness practice supports one to get to the root of any challenge. It can be applied to all components of our human experience, and to overall wellbeing.
Positive Intelligence defines mental fitness as strengthening the part of your brain that serves you and quieting the part that sabotages you so that you handle life’s challenges with a more positive mindset, and less stress.
In a nutshell, mental fitness focuses on strengthening 3 core muscle (groups); intercepting negativity, self-command, and initiating a positive response instead. Commitment to daily practice can result in new habits that support a more positive frame of mind around any circumstance it is applied to. The framework and associated new habits you form get to the root of stress, challenges or conflict, rather than solely focusing on symptoms you experience. People who complete the program report sustainable improvement in their relationships, performance, and well-being.
One thing I love about the framework is the idea that it’s an operating system. Once you have the system loaded, you can apply it to any challenge or conflict you find yourself in. It is one framework applicable to life’s multiple arenas where we are subject to negativity and limiting beliefs.
The PQ® Program provides an easy to use, interactive app experience with personalized daily practices. Meanwhile, completing the program with a competently trained coach along your side (ahem! yours truly) provides support for using and applying the experience to your life's challenges or conflicts.
So, for example, I work with people who are sifting through personal and professional life challenges. Think relationship dynamics, indecision, the stress of personal life spilling into work, or work spilling over to homelife. Whether you are addressing work-life blend as a busy parent, partner, or both; sandwiched between parent-care, childcare, and (attempts at) self-care; or you are juggling what it means to create or lead a large project while taking care of yourself and a team, there is a lot to sift through in the space where work and life meet. Overwhelm, overextending energy, and stressors related to multiple demands or relationships pile up. PQ® and mental fitness tools support you to stop the pile up in its tracks by intercepting the negativity that rears its head with stressors. And that's just one of life's arenas where the PQ® framework is effective.
Is it right for you?
The people at #positiveintelligence said it best in their program-site FAQs: “This is the right program for you if you are a) committed to improving your performance and effectiveness dramatically while reducing stress, b) looking for a science-based and trusted system to make it stick, and c) willing to put in the initial effort to rewire years of mental habits that don’t serve you.”
As a coach who walks her talk, I find the framework has ignited a lifetime journey. Applied over a lifetime, the potential for change is awe-inspiring to consider. The initial 6-week program is no joke. It requires commitment; and like most things in life, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
Consider going on a mental fitness journey to change your trajectory.
Your mental fitness, no matter the arena of life to which you are applying the practice, is important to your overall wellbeing. I love the practice of PQ®, strengthening my core mental fitness muscles, and supporting clients to strengthen theirs. If you are interested in learning more about mental fitness, and taking responsibility for a foundational component of your overall wellbeing, I can help.
