Welcome to my blog! I'm so glad you are here.
I am Brandi Smith, Owner of Brandi L. Smith Life Coaching and Development, and a Professional Certified Coach. Besides offering Life, Career, and Leadership (Executive) Coaching, I teach about coaching and human development and I like to write, so here I am blogging. For this post, I'll share a little about what to expect from my blog and e-newsletter, and a little about the power of professional coaching.
What to expect: the e-newsletter, this blog, and little to no social media
If you signed up for the mailing list, an e-newsletter will arrive in your inbox 1 or 2 times a month. You will get my blog posts in the e-news, and you can expect one, maybe two, blog posts a month (for now). In both my blog and e-news I'll generally write about things that affect our growth as human beings, or things we can do to support our growth. Sometimes content will be centered on my own ideas and things I create; but I also like to read and curate other content, so I'll also share things that I am learning from books or articles that offer important insight, or that have implications for personal or professional development.
You might note that I am not on many social media channels. That's on purpose. I know there are tons of differing opinions about that; suffice to say that mine is such that I prefer not to spend time that way. When I use social media, it will be as a tool to announce a blog article, or something of significance about my business or coaching, and you will only find me/my business on LinkedIn.
One thing I love about coaching; a taste of what to expect from future posts
Often times, in coaching, people say complementary things like:
That was powerful.
I had no idea. Wow.
This (way of seeing or thinking) really changes things.
I feel so much clearer now.
Thank you.
Sometimes these comments come with a sigh of relief, or tears of self-recognition. It's always wonderful to hear when someone is moved in a moment, not only because it is a welcome complement, but because it tells me the process is working. What's really happening in these moments, is that a client is becoming more self-aware (and hopefully will then use that awareness for their growth and development). Coaches facilitate the process of evoking awareness so that a client comes to understand present circumstances. Clients start to see how they can apply their new understanding to what they want for the future. The awareness or insight they build supports them to shift from thinking, seeing, doing or behaving in one way (status quo, same results, the straight line), to thinking, seeing, doing, or behaving in a new way - which has the potential to create a new possibility or trajectory.
I am a total coaching-geek, so I know this might just be me thinking "how cool!" (and jumping up and down about it a little too). If so, I accept that, and thanks for reading anyway. The reason I think it's so cool is that the awareness-building process is the first step in growth to create new thoughts, behaviors, or possibilities for yourself. When clients do that, I want to shout out loud, "Look at yooouuu!" (Sometimes I do.) It is gratifying for both them and the coach. Wow. Do I ever love coaching!
This, Dear Readers, is the kind of thing I will write about. Only in more depth, with examples, stories, and the occasional joke or sarcasm - because sometimes I just can't help it. This note gets us started. I hope you stick with me over time, and that we get to explore a lot of inspiring, insightful, and fun things together.
More posts coming soon!
I'm excited to get this e-newsletter and blog going, and I also do my best to work other choice-activities and downtime into my life so that I can live a healthy mix of creativity, interaction, and rest into my life. So, give me a minute before the newsletters and posts start rolling in. You can always browse my website if you are interested in learning more. Find me at brandilsmith.com. You can also sign-up for the monthly e-newsletter there if you haven't already.
In the meantime, stay tuned, and know that I look forward to connecting with you over the blog, with the e-newsletter, and in any other way that we might be brought together.
Wishing you well!
Brandi
